Take care in heatwave say hospital medics and nurses Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it’s too hot for too long there are health risks. If a heatwave hits this summer, make sure the hot weather doesn’t harm you or anyone you know. Top advice for being sun safe: Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm Wear UV sunglasses, preferably wraparound, to reduce UV exposure to the eyes, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen of at least SPF15 with UVA protection, wear a wide brimmed hat and light, loose-fitting cotton clothes. This should minimise the risk of sunburn. WightSAR provide skilled volunteers to assist Hampshire Constabulary and other agencies in searches for vulnerable missing persons on the Isle of Wight. We rely on donations from the public and Support from sponsors to fund our team. To report a person as missing in the first instance you should call Hampshire Constabulary on 101 or if that person is a child or a vulnerable person you should notify Hampshire Constabulary immediately using the 999 emergency number. Through your support, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance brings an advanced Critical Care Team to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight when they need it most. Available both day and night, 365 days a year, the Air Ambulance Critical Care Team is called out many times a day to attend to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents. Highly skilled crews of doctors, paramedics and pilots can be at the scene of an incident within minutes, ready to deliver the same level of care that you would expect from a hospital emergency department. It currently costs in excess of £9,000 a day to maintain our life saving service, and it is only thanks to the generosity of the communities that we serve that we are able keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives. Each year our customers help us find and fix thousands of leaks and save millions of litres of water. The South East is an area of ‘serious water stress’, so our leak detection team are dedicated to finding water leaks across our region, using sophisticated monitoring and acoustic systems. However, the support of our four and a half million customers to report leaks can make a huge difference. If you are aware of a leak please phone our 24-hour Leakline: 0800 820 999 (Freephone) Or 0330 303 0146 (Calls charged at local rate) We will investigate and repair any leaks on our network as soon as possible.

You can also call 105 if you spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put you, or someone else, in danger. If there’s a serious immediate risk, you should call the emergency services too. 105 is a free service, available to people in England, Scotland and Wales. You can call the number from most landlines and mobile phones.
If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, or are worried that fumes containing carbon monoxide are escaping from a gas appliance, please call the free Gas Emergency Services emergency line immediately. Also: Open all doors and windows to ventilate the property. Do not turn on/off any electrical switches. Extinguish all naked flames, do not smoke, strike matches or do anything which could cause ignition. If there are any electrical security entry phones/locks, please open door manually.
