Take care in heatwave say hospital medics and nurses Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it’s too hot for too long there are health risks. If a heatwave hits this summer, make sure the hot weather doesn’t harm you or anyone you know. Top advice for being sun safe: Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm Wear UV sunglasses, preferably wraparound, to reduce UV exposure to the eyes, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen of at least SPF15 with UVA protection, wear a wide brimmed hat and light, loose-fitting cotton clothes. This should minimise the risk of sunburn. Through your support, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance brings an advanced Critical Care Team to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight when they need it most. Available both day and night, 365 days a year, the Air Ambulance Critical Care Team is called out many times a day to attend to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents. Highly skilled crews of doctors, paramedics and pilots can be at the scene of an incident within minutes, ready to deliver the same level of care that you would expect from a hospital emergency department. It currently costs in excess of £9,000 a day to maintain our life saving service, and it is only thanks to the generosity of the communities that we serve that we are able keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives. The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Cowes Lifeboat Station is converted from a former HM Customs Watch House, the rear of which is 300 years old. It looks out onto one of the world’s busiest shipping waterways and carries out a range of interesting services every year. Each year our customers help us find and fix thousands of leaks and save millions of litres of water. The South East is an area of ‘serious water stress’, so our leak detection team are dedicated to finding water leaks across our region, using sophisticated monitoring and acoustic systems. However, the support of our four and a half million customers to report leaks can make a huge difference. Help Through Crisis (HTC) aims to assist Island residents who are in genuine hardship, enabling them to quickly access help in an emergency. There is a limited fund to provide immediate emergency help with food, gas and electricity. This can only be offered to those in the most need and as a last resort. No cash can be given but help will be provided to find other sources of assistance. We will do our best to help but we cannot give assistance in all circumstances.
