The next step up from Urgent Care is Emergency Care. Emergency Care is provided by the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s or by calling a 999 ambulance. The Emergency Department and 999 are for life threatening situations e.g. major trauma or loss of blood, unconsciousness, chest pain, etc.
Urgent Care Service (UCS) (formerly Beacon Health Centre) is co-located with the Emergency Department at St Mary’s and treats urgent care needs. Those attending the Urgent Care Service will have been advised to do so by a health professional – doctor, dentist, optician, pharmacist, nurse, paramedic, etc. Those attending the Urgent Care Service, depending on their needs, will be seen by a nurse, a community practitioner or a GP. The Urgent Care Service will redirect individuals to other services where the individual does not have an urgent care need and their problem can be better dealt with by another service. *Please note that it is no longer possible to see a GP at the Urgent Care Service between 8am and 6.30pm on weekdays. At these times, people will need to make appointments with their GP practice.

What is NHS 111? It’s a new NHS telephone number to help make it easier for you to access local health services. If you live in, or are visiting the Isle of Wight you can now call 111 when you need medical help fast, but it isn’t a 999 emergency. You will be assessed, given advice and directed straightaway to the local service that can help you best. That could be A&E, an out of hours doctor, a walk-in centre, community nurse, emergency dentist or a late opening chemist. You can ring the 111 number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Calls from landlines and mobile phones are free.

A way of working with children and young people. The Early Help Assessment (EHA) is a way of working with children and young people. It involves listening to you and your child, to find out your child’s needs, and what is working well in their life. An action plan will be agreed with you and your child and is put in place to make sure your child gets the right sort of help. The EHA is voluntary, you and your child can choose whether to be involved.
We offer breaks for children and young people who have been referred from Social Services. The Aim of Beaulieu House is to provide not only a break for the children and young people, in an environment that is safe and non-judgemental, but also to provide a much needed break for parents and carers. It also gives siblings the chance for quality time with their parents. Registered Charity No. 1050045
