Citizens Advice IW –
Help Through Crisis (HTC) aims to assist island residents who are in genuine hardship, enabling them to quickly access help in an emergency. There is a fund to provide immediate emergency help with food, gas and electricity. This can only be offered to those in the most need and as a last resort
Household Support Fund–
5 x community pantries across the Island providing food at a lower cost to families in need.
Any Island resident over the age of 18 can apply to become a community pantry member, and you do not need to apply to your closest one (although the rise in fuel costs may make this preferable). You can visit the pantry a maximum of once per week, pay a contribution of £5, and receive in excess of £15 worth of food, which can be fresh, frozen or general foods.

Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Fire and Rescue –
Safe&Well (home fire safety visit) which we currently deliver to those in our communities with the following vulnerabilities who are more at risk of harm from fire:
• Cognitive impairments – which would mean a person might not understand what to do in the event of a fire
• Mobility impairments – meaning a person’s ability to escape from a property in an emergency would be hindered
• Signs of carelessness with smoking materials – burn marks evident within the property
• Substance misuse – which may impair a person’s ability to exit a property in an emergency
• Hoarding or high levels of clutter – this can obstruct a person’s ability to exit a property as well as provide high levels of fuel to feed a fire
• Returning home from the hospital and there are fire concerns in the home,e.g. burn marks on bedding, furniture, or carpets. Electrical faults, unsafe practices with cooking and heating the home, the occupier smokes and there are no fire alarms installed in the home
We will discuss and supply free of charge (where we identify risk) smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors (the likelihood that people will prioritise other things over boiler servicing/chimney sweeping), oil heaters if there are no other means of heating a property, winter warm packs (blanket, flask,gloves etc), extension leads if unsafe overloading is identified and fire-retardant bedding where we identify unsafe smoking practices.

Shop smart
Ask a member of staff at your supermarket for fresh food reduction times and try to shop then for reduced-priced items. Avoid purchasing more than you need or can store. Use within the specified date or freeze for later
Buy supermarket own/value ranges – whilst the cost of these has gone up too, they are often still more affordable than branded products
Canned and frozen fruits and vegetables are just as healthy as fresh varieties and can often be cheaper. Try and choose fruit and veg that’s in water instead of oil or syrup
Cheaper protein sources can also be purchased tinned or frozen; lentils, chickpeas, beans – these are high in fiber so great for keeping you fuller for longer
Fish is often much cheaper when choosing frozen or canned varieties. Try to choose options that are not covered in batter or breadcrumbs
Plan your meals in advance
Check whether loose vegetables and fruits are cheaper, packaged fruits and vegetables are often a little more expensive

Guidance from the Department of Health has identified that the systematic delivery of very brief advice (VBA) and referral of smokers to effective,evidence-based stop-smoking services are a vital part of ensuring that these individuals access the most effective method of stopping smoking.

Living Well & Early Help –
This service receives around 40 NEW requests a week for various support. This is in addition to ongoing cases where we try to support people with a variety of needs, many compounded by financial debt. Some cases are complex where an enquirer needs support in a variety of areas. From Debt, arrears, no food, no money to replace broken white goods, and limited or no money to pay bills.
Living conditions across the island seem to be affected as there are many cases of hoarding, clutter and poor living environments.
Areas of growing need
Transport = Lack of affordable Transport to Medical/hospital appointments
Housing needs = people being served notice, eviction notices, or want to move but are restricted due to lack of availability lack of funds and arrears
Care needs = people wanting to stay at home who struggle to manage or stay safe in the home but are not eligible for financial support
MH = Many more inquiries are sent to us with risks, MH concerns, Abuse, alcohol & substance dependencies
Support = More enquires where persons with needs are requesting daily support to manage their days but have no funds to do this.

Pan Together –
Pan Together is able to issue e-vouchers for the foodbank and can - in certain circumstances - offer crisis supermarket vouchers to households in Pan, Pan Meadows and Barton who are in particular hardship.
We have a 'help yourself' trolley outside at the front of the cafe during its opening hours (Tuesday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm) providing surplus, just-in-date food to local residents on a first come, first served basis.
The larder is now open and is part of the pantry circle, so operates like the other pantries – for example “The Pan Community Larder is now open Tuesday’s and Friday’s Midday – 3pm offering £15 worth of food for £5
Our community cafe provides freshly-prepared, wholesome food at affordable prices whilst also acting as a social hub for Pan and providing signposting and support. Teas and coffees are £1 a mug. A slice of cake is £1.50. A full English breakfast costs £7.50 and there's plenty of choices - from sandwiches/baguettes to salads, burgers, jacket potatoes and omelets. There's a special on Thursday lunch times.

Pan Together –
Pan Together exists to support and provide a community hub for the residents of East Newport. Our purpose-built community center provides the following.
• A community cafe that is open from 9 am to 3 pm each weekday from Tuesday to Friday. It provides freshly-prepared, wholesome food whilst also acting as a social hub for Pan and providing signposting and support.
• An IT room with eight computer stations and free Wi-fi, which people can drop in to use when the room isn't being rented out.
• Every Wednesday from 9 am until 3 pm, there are free drop-in sessions in the IT room for people wanting to brush up their skills and/or get help with their CV and/or are thinking about returning to work after a break. No booking is required and if you're interested, just pop along.
• There are bingo nights on the second Thursday of each month from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. Entrance is 50p; it's £4.50 per bingo book, and everyone is welcome.
• We have two community rooms that are available to hire as well as a training kitchen with six workstations. There's an outside space for growing produce.
• Every Tuesday during term times, the Adult Community Learning team run free Maths and English classes in our IT room.

The relief of fuel poverty through practical tailored guidance.
Information on grants and tariffs relating to utilities and energy and water efficiency.
Grants can be available for new white goods and other measures, including boilers and insulation. These are usually available for those on a very low income or in receipt of certain benefits or allowances. (Grant rules change all the time!)

Tidal Family Support –
The center provides food parcels and toiletries to individuals and families who are in need, but not necessarily accessing additional provisions or support. The food given out is from the Isle of Wight Foodbank. It’s a walk-in,self-referral service, and no need for vouchers. They do not have to prove they are on benefits.
We offer support advice and guidance and practical support to parents. The core team is qualified Citizens Advice first aiders and signpost individuals to the appropriate agency to meet their needs.
We will be delivering the BBC Children In Need Money Heroes project to develop families ’financial capabilities. This will be direct work with children and young people or supporting parents to support their children with understanding finances.
We have recently applied for funding from the IOW council to run a twelve-month project that targets families who have been affected by the Covid19 pandemic and not currently accessing any community resources. We anticipate a percentage of families we will support if our application is successful will be directly living in poverty. Therefore, we will be able to offer advice, and guidance to mitigate poverty impact.

WWTB –
The nature of our organisation means we offer 1-1support for anyone needing help or advice for example they may request help with form filling, cooking, and a huge variety of requests. These are then matched to another member who can provide the help, and they earn time credits in return (1 per hour). These can then be saved, spent or given away to another member. If the request is beyond the skill level of our volunteer members the Timebank Coordinator will sign-post individuals to other agencies as needed, and works closely with the care -coordinator and social prescriber in the WestWight.

WWTB Drop and Swap table –
At our weekly community market, we have a Drop and Swap table for all to drop off unwanted adult clothing or goods and take away an equivalent amount of items that others have donated. This encourages people to reuse, save money and be part of a supportive community. If someone wishes to take things and doesn’t have anything to swap, they are still very welcome to do so.

WWTB Family bags –
We have a checklist including, ‘food, toys, clothes, games and books that a parent/ carer can tick and include the age of their child/children) if they wish to receive a Family bag full of the items they need. Usually, these are community members requesting bags for others they know (eg West Wight nursery school/primary schools), but parents/carers can also request their own family bag. Throughout the pandemic, we make up and delivered hundreds of these bags but only been requested to do 3 since Oct 2022. All items in the bags are donated by Timebank members and members of the public.

WWTB Hardship Grants
We have given out 7 hardship grants since October 21- this is an envelope containing 50- pound cash given to the family as a gift from the Timebank. We receive referrals for this scheme from the family liaison officer, health visitor and head teachers in the West Wight. These are reserved for families in urgent need, often before they have other help and support offered. The money comes from private donations from community members.
