Join us on a fun walk Down To The Town through Ryde to the Esplanade, making clay impressions of our built and natural environment as we go. Led by artist Babs Gowan, we’ll be exploring the textures all around us, from street furniture and walls to trees, plants and once we reach the seashore, shells! Meeting and finishing our walk and workshop at Ryde Library. Wellies are recommended for the beach part of our walk. All materials will be provided and everyone is welcome, although children should be aged 12 + and must be accompanied by an adult. All our work will be glazed and fired, ready for our Wild About Wight exhibition at Quay Arts next spring as part of the Biosphere celebrations! Shining for Summer is a Source Energy Health and Wellbeing event with an emphasis of giving you the support and tools you need to manage your own health and wellbeing to enable you to achieve your full potential. Now recognised as the Town’s official annual get together, the Cowes Big Lunch returns again on Sunday, 3rd June 2018 for an even bigger free community celebration. From midday, residents of Cowes and their friends and families are invited to join together for a giant picnic in Northwood Park on the lawns of the House, with lots of free entertainment and fun for the whole family to enjoy. Organised and sponsored by a number of well known organisations from the Town including the Island Sailing Club, The Royal Yacht Squadron and Red Funnel, the event regularly sees over 2500 people enjoy this free day out. Starting with a marching band parade into Northwood Park at 11.30am, an open-air blessing follows at 11.45am to thank everyone for attending. At midday the celebrations start with a full programme of live music led by the Castle Jazz Band and other popular local performers. Other highlights of the day include a fun dog show, a children’s activity arena and the popular Cowes Bake Off competition which sees large numbers of entries from enthusiastic cake bakers across the Town.
