Dates for 2018 – 23rd August – 26th August (more details to follow) The world’s biggest gathering of vintage and modern scooters – The Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally The first Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally was way back in 1980, scooter riders have come every August since, with numbers of participants numbering anywhere between four to seven thousand each year.
Admire the workmanship, enjoy the memories and expect to be surprised! Featuring an array of railway and road vehicles of all shapes and sizes. If you love cars and heritage transport this event is for you! Every vehicle on display is someone’s pride and joy … And this is also your chance to contribute to the Festival! Whether your car, bicycle, road engine, truck, wagon or old charabanc is a rare vintage marque, a smartly polished classic, or just an old banger, if it’s your pride and joy then come and display it at Havenstreet Station for the day! (All vehicles must be in the events field by 10am and remain there until 4pm). There will be a full, two-train service of steam trains reminiscent of Island transport in days gone by, and there’s a chance to explore our Train Story Discovery Centre and learn the story of our Victorian and Edwardian railway vehicles and their lasting impact on all our lives! To complete the weekend there will be live music from Jukebox Jazz and flying displays from Haven Falconry. Hundreds of classic owners agreed the 2017 event was the best Isle of Wight International Classic Car show to date, although organiser Victor Gallucci explained that after 16 years of classics visiting the Island, each year he looked to improve and 2018 will be even bigger and better. The dates for both days have now been confirmed and for those planning their first Cross-Solent visit the simple truth is book early. Victor does enjoy some fantastic support via Wight Link Ferries transporting hundreds of cars, loaded with enthusiasts across the Solent for the ‘charity driven’ two-day festival. The Saturday will be held at the Newport Quay venue from 10.00am. Alongside the River Medina in the centre of the Island; Saturday is traditionally the quieter day of the weekend but visitors stream in from early doors to take advantage of some unique and rare machines on view. This year the American car section increased dramatically drawing stunning stateside V8’s from as far north as Barnsley in Yorkshire. The islands American Car Club (ACIOW) always attend in force but with fellow enthusiasts joining from the mainland visitors enjoy an impressive ‘Yank’ showing. The Hullabaloo Soapbox Challenge is an annual race for amateur teams. You can enter handmade carts, whilst having fun and winning prizes! We welcome entries from both individuals, groups and businesses. The event is held in the Sandown Bay area near Dinosaur Isle and Browns Golf and cafe and is really popular with spectators. We encourage creative and artistic designs for all carts, and business entries are welcome to use their company logos. There will be prizes for creativity and speed. We see our own three Ivatt locomotives in steam together on the Isle of Wight for the first time. 41298, newly restored 41313 and 46447, the first tender locomotive to run on the Isle of Wight. Together with Hunslet ‘Austerity’ Juno, the three Ivatt locomotives were kindly donated to the IWSR by the Ivatt Locomotive Trust and this is the chance to celebrate the most generous gift of these fine locomotives, which continues the story of steam railways on the Isle of Wight. There’s a Real Ale Bar serving Island beers and you can grab a bite to eat in our refreshment rooms. Relax in the ambience of Havenstreet station with a pint of your favourite tipple as you watch the trains go by! The 13th Isle of Wight Real Ale Festival features beers sourced from brewers all over the country, including many brewed on the Isle of Wight. There will be a range of hot and cold food available and a full service of steam trains will be operating. The operating timetable and a full listing of ales will be available to view HERE when they become available. There is free admission to the Festival which is open from 11am until 7pm on Saturday and Sunday and from 11am until 5pm on bank holiday Monday. The unique setting of Havenstreet station makes our Festival a really pleasurable experience, and on each day you can enjoy flying displays from Haven Falconry. The Isle of Wight Bus & Coach Museum does not charge for entry into the Museum, we rely on your generosity through donations to improve our building and exhibits. Similarly, all rides on the vintage buses operating our RYDABUS Bus Services and Brading Coach Tours, comply with historic vehicle operation guidelines and are not charged for, with buses being loaded on a first come, first served basis.
