The popular West Wight Triathlon is an ideal race for first timers but challenging enough for more experienced racers. It incorporates a pool swim, spectacular cycle along the Military Road, along the south west coast of the Isle of Wight and flat run along the picturesque River Yar. Transition is in the field adjoining the Sports Centre where the pool is located. Online entries for the 2018 Chilly Hilly are now open! A race to warm you up this winter, a 10 mile cross country run taking in some of the most spectacular views and hills the West Wight has to offer. The event will start and finish at the West Wight Sports and Community Centre. You must be 16 or over to participate in this event. The Isle of Wight Festival of Running will be back from 1st June – 3rd June 2018! (more details to follow) The Isle of Wight Festival of Running is a three day event designed with the whole family in mind. Whether you have just taken up running with a Couch to 5k programme, looking a marathon or half marathon that combines stunning scenery and a challenging course or want to push yourself to the limit with a half iron distance triathlon – we have a race for you! Plus there is onsite camping and access to all the facilities the Sports Centre has to offer!
Ryde Slide is back and bigger than ever! This summer the Ryde Slide returns! This year in July the 200 metre thrill seekers’ delight, an exhilarating giant inflatable water slide, will arrive in Ryde’s main shopping street. It has been made possible by a collaboration between the former Mayor of Ryde, Wayne Whittle and a range of organisations and sponsors. Islanders and visitors will get the chance to take part in this unique community event whilst raising money for local charities. The event will run from 10:00am – 6:00pm and is located on Union Street, Ryde. The slide starts half way down the hill and is approximately outside of the Black Sheep bar. (see map as a guide) Tickets are just £10 each (+VAT and fees) and places are strictly limited, so make sure you book your tickets today. Round the Island Race for 2018 will be on 7th July. (Details to follow) The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, an island situated off the south coast of England. The race regularly attracts over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.
On Friday 27th April 2018 we shall be hosting another fun evening of bingo and a good deal of entertainment with food. Held at the Lions Club in Lake. We will be happy to offer a sumptuous buffet. Racing in Coxed Fours, Coxless Pairs and Doubles and Single Sculls for men and women in various statuses over an 1800m course from Appley Beach, out towards Ryde Pier and return. Bring your teddy bears along to Havenstreet to meet the Railway teddies. Children aged up to 15 will travel for free if they bring their much loved bear with them. Take part in our Teddy Bear Treasure Hunt and watch the Teddy Bears’ Special, an extra-special train on which our own teddy bears will travel. There will even be an opportunity to travel on the Teddy Bears’ Special, subject to a supplement and availability. How many teddies will you spot today?
