Aviva Sports Club for children with disabilities Thursday 4pm to 6pm Thanks to funding from the Aviva Community Fund we are able to offer a weekly 2 hour session specifically for children with disabilities. Come and try out a variety of sports with our coach Paul Marshal, including access to our indoor climbing wall. Walking Netball starts on Thursday 8th February and on 15th February, then fortnightly from 7pm – 8pm at Ryde Academy Sports Hall, Pell Lane, Ryde. Cowes LEGO Club Cowes LEGO Club is 10.30am – 12.30pm on the 4th Saturday of every month for children over the age of 5. Each month children are given a mission to complete, which will then be displayed until the next month. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Phone: 01983 293341
Adult Cards & Board Games Club is a fortnightly club run by the Supporters of Cowes Library and takes place on Monday mornings 10am – 12pm. It is a fun and social space for adults of all ages to play various card games and board games such as scrabble, cribbage, monopoly and many more. Refreshments are provided.
Every Monday 1pm – 4pm at West Wight Sports & Community Centre. The Games Lounge is a great way to socialise and meet new people. You have access to the facilities in the Community Centre including pool tables, air hockey, table top football and table games. Plus refreshments. CHATTY/FRIENDLY/NO FEARS/RUBBER BRIDGE (Every Tuesday at Seagrove Pavilion from 1.30pm – 4.30pm)We started at the Pavilion in September 2013 and quickly developed as players were struck by being able to play a serious game of bridge but in a friendly and helpful environment. This prompted us to test the water in creating training sessions for those who wished to learn the game and we are now with our 4th class with the other 3 having integrated into our full sessions. You don’t need a partner and beverages and biscuits provided and a great afternoon of bridge for just £3. All newcomers welcome. Average 5 to 8 tables per session. Round the Island Race for 2018 will be on 7th July. The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, an island situated off the south coast of England. The race regularly attracts over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs. Our Splash and Dash is a fun competition for girls and boys and a great introduction to the sport of Triathlon (without the cycling!) The swim is in the pool and the run will be around Jubilee Field. Ryde Slide is back and bigger than ever! This summer the Ryde Slide returns! This year in July the 200 metre thrill seekers’ delight, an exhilarating giant inflatable water slide, will arrive in Ryde’s main shopping street. It has been made possible by a collaboration between the former Mayor of Ryde, Wayne Whittle and a range of organisations and sponsors. Islanders and visitors will get the chance to take part in this unique community event whilst raising money for local charities. The event will run from 10:00am – 6:00pm and is located on Union Street, Ryde. The slide starts half way down the hill and is approximately outside of the Black Sheep bar. Since 1826 Cowes Week has played a key part in the British sporting summer calendar and is one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events. It now stages up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. One of the best locations to watch the starts ashore each morning is undoubtedly the area between the Castle of the Royal Yacht Squadron and the cannons – as long as you don’t mind the loud bangs!
