Cowes Library has a friendly and experienced family historian offering one to one sessions to assist with growing your family tree. Whether just starting out or needing help with a family history mystery. Sessions are held in Cowes Library on Monday mornings at an hourly rate of £6.00. Our Place Tuesdays 10am to 12.30pm Our Place – West Wight is staffed by volunteers and supported by professionals and meets every Tuesday for a FREE weekly drop in session in the Community Centre. FREE confidential information and support Julie or Mark from Southern House, Adam the Local Area Coordinator and Mel the Just Ask Support Officer, will be available each week to chat to. ADVICE They offer help with forms and applications (paper and online); general finance and housing enquiries; a listening ear. If they can’t help, they’ll find someone who can! This session allows you to come and speak privately in a safe space with one of Wight DASH’s specialist domestic abuse workers about any concerns you have about domestic abuse and options available to you. Domestic abuse includes physical, psychological, sexual, emotional and financial abuse as well as coercive and controlling behaviour. This is a sit and wait session, there is no need to book. We meet at the Riverside Centre, Newport on the first Thursday of every month, 10.00 am – 13.00 pm. Refreshments are available. The group is formed of female patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The women find support talking amongst themselves to help each other through treatment as well as dealing with the personal and intimate aspects of breast cancer. This can be at any time during the cancer journey; from diagnosis through treatment and afterwards. A different topic of interest is introduced at each meeting to help patients to understand and manage their cancer. Health professionals as well as therapists and other speakers, will help patients to stay active, to have a healthier life, as well as giving them confidence in living with breast cancer.
We also have a monthly clothing sale on the first Saturday of the month between 10am-1pm at Love Lane, Cowes from 10am-1pm. We have lots of good quality clothes looking for new homes. Free for carers of people living with dementia and anyone with an interest in dementia Each discussion runs from 6:30pm – 8:30pm “Dementia Conversations” is an initiative offered by Dementia Pathfinders in collaboration with St James’ Church, providing an opportunity for carers, relatives and friends of people living with dementia, to share experiences, gain knowledge and explore issues that challenge our beliefs and attitudes.
