Ryde Slide is back and bigger than ever! This summer the Ryde Slide returns! This year in July the 200 metre thrill seekers’ delight, an exhilarating giant inflatable water slide, will arrive in Ryde’s main shopping street. It has been made possible by a collaboration between the former Mayor of Ryde, Wayne Whittle and a range of organisations and sponsors. Islanders and visitors will get the chance to take part in this unique community event whilst raising money for local charities. The event will run from 10:00am – 6:00pm and is located on Union Street, Ryde. The slide starts half way down the hill and is approximately outside of the Black Sheep bar. (see map as a guide) Tickets are just £10 each (+VAT and fees) and places are strictly limited, so make sure you book your tickets today. Join us in the grounds of the beautiful private estate of Barton Manor for a grand day out for all the family. Featuring live music, Pimms bar, Sunflower Cafe, stallholders & exhibitors, traditional games and entertainment, bouncy castle fun, free kids area, groom a donkey, falconry display, pony and trap rides around the estate, and of course the stunning grounds themselves! Car Boot Sale – East Cowes Vics – Every Monday Club house will be open for toilets , tea coffee etc, so this is one not to be missed. Sellers set up from 5.30pm / Buyers admitted from 6pm. The Solent Swim is one of the main fundraising events for West Wight Sports & Community Centre, which receives no funding from local government and is a registered charity. Are you up for the challenge of swimming from Hurst Castle to Colwell Bay? Raise funds for a great local resource while taking part in an unforgettable experience. As well as swimmers we need kayakers and ribs to act as support for our swimmers.
Volunteers Sought Wessex Cancer Trust Isle of Wight are hosting the Island’s first colour run on Sunday August 5th. We need volunteers beyond our capacity to make this a successful and safe event. Can you help with car parking, registering participants, throwing coloured powder or watching over an obstacle that day please? About the event: Sited at Sandown Airport the Rainbow Run will comprise of a 3km colour run with ten inflatable obstacles to climb over, clamber around or crawl through. The event is the first major fundraiser for the charity’s £100,000 Building for the Future appeal to create a new cancer wellbeing centre on the IOW. The event will also include live music, children’s entertainment, a barbecue and a licensed bar. Fund raising event for Brading Community Partnership BRAG’s chosen charity. The Phoenix Choir is a mixed choir with its roots in Wootton Bridge in the Isle of Wight. We perform easy listening songs under the banner of ‘From Pavarotti to Presley’. The aim of the choir is to generate funds for deserving causes and we have raised to date a total of more than £40,000.

The Islands Largest Traditional Garden Fair Returning for the 19th year, Wolverton Garden Fair is the largest garden event on the Island & is proud once again to be supporting Age UK Isle of Wight. In the last 10 years supporting Age UK IW we’ve raised over £200,000 enabling them to offer services to local older people improving their quality of life, whatever their situation. Wolverton Garden Fair features over 120 Island and mainland exhibitors representing a wide range of gardening and country arts and crafts. Visiting nurseries sit alongside the wonderful Island nurseries with all the traditional delights of a genuine Garden Fair including entertainment to suit all ages featuring: dogs shows, Elizabethan re-enactors, falconry, magic and music. Last year’s inaugural Osborne Run was so successful we’re doing it again! Thanks to the generosity of English Heritage, take this unique opportunity to run through the grounds of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s beautiful estate of Osborne. Held on Sunday 9th September 2018, participants can choose from a 3 or 5km run that starts and finishes in front of the home so loved by the royal couple. The non-competitive fun run is open to all ages and abilities, and will take in areas of the grounds including the beach, Swiss Cottage and quieter areas of the estate not usually frequented by visitors. The cost of entry includes a running vest or t shirt and all finishers will receive a special Osborne Run medal. Hundreds of classic owners agreed the 2017 event was the best Isle of Wight International Classic Car show to date, although organiser Victor Gallucci explained that after 16 years of classics visiting the Island, each year he looked to improve and 2018 will be even bigger and better. The dates for both days have now been confirmed and for those planning their first Cross-Solent visit the simple truth is book early. Victor does enjoy some fantastic support via Wight Link Ferries transporting hundreds of cars, loaded with enthusiasts across the Solent for the ‘charity driven’ two-day festival. The Saturday will be held at the Newport Quay venue from 10.00am. Alongside the River Medina in the centre of the Island; Saturday is traditionally the quieter day of the weekend but visitors stream in from early doors to take advantage of some unique and rare machines on view. This year the American car section increased dramatically drawing stunning stateside V8’s from as far north as Barnsley in Yorkshire. The islands American Car Club (ACIOW) always attend in force but with fellow enthusiasts joining from the mainland visitors enjoy an impressive ‘Yank’ showing. Run Through The Colours Of The AgeUK Isle of Wight Rainbow This September At Porchfield Cricket Club As Part Of Their Annual Club Fun Day! On Saturday 15th September, Porchfield Cricket Club are hosting AgeUK Isle of Wights’ Powder run! Run (or walk!) through our fun filled colour course,! Adults 2k starts at 2pm and Childrens( 13 & under) 1k starts at 3pm. Every Participants gets a rainbow Pack including sunglasses, holi colour powder and a certificate of completion! Small Sponsorship is welcomed. 100% of all funds raised stay on the Island – Helping older islanders to love later life.
