Join the Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2019 and take part in one of the UK’s longest running walking festivals. Discover unique routes with experienced local walkers and enjoy an extensive walks programme that includes walks across, over and around the Island.
Newport Quay Saturday 18th May – 11am to 3pm Riverfest is a fun free community event which takes place every May in the heart of the Isle of Wight, Newport, the Island’s capital. The event has all the feel of a traditional village fete, with many free activities for children. Local charities attend promoting the work they do in the community, helping people and the local environment. You can find out about the Island’s unique ecology and discover what lurks in the mud in the Medina river, thanks to the crew from the Medina Valley Centre! You might also wish to have a paddle in a canoe, but look out for the notorious Crew of the Rose Pirates and the Wolfgaurd Vikings! There is no entrance fee as the Quay is owned by the IW Council, who support this event by not charging for its use. Riverfest is organised by The Footprint Trust, a local charity, which promotes sustainable living. The event is supported by Community Action IW, Southern Co-Operative, Natural Enterprice, Newport Parish Council, SSE, Vectis Sunrise Rotary. We have been running our famous festival since 2010 (When we won The Beautiful South GOLD Award) The Scarecrows (or “Gallybaggers” as we call them round these parts) include a diverse range of creations that amuse and amaze! Our festival raises money for local causes such as the upkeep of the village hall, equipment for the allotment group and the Church at Gatcombe. Celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2019 the Ventnor Fringe is a week long festival which sees the Island’s southernmost town totally transformed into a whole world of pop up venues and bars in every conceivable space, hosting over 100 different shows.
Jack Up The 80’s is renowned for being one big Summer party & that’s the true essence of what people love about it. Now there’s fabulous news for party-goers as this hugely popular event is broadening its appeal to allow for a richer variety of music! Returning as ‘Jack Up The Summer’ in its traditional slot this August, this much loved family friendly throwback festival will continue to celebrate the upbeat, hand-clapping music of yesteryear, centred around party hits and feel-good music from the 80’s & 90’s. Audiences can enjoy a wider variety of acts however the 80’s spirit remains very much at the heart of Jack Up The Summer. As such, the 2019 edition of the event guarantees 100% 80’s chart acts on one of the two days! The first wave of artists for Jack Up The Summer which takes place over the weekend of 10 & 11 August continue to be revealed in the coming weeks. Already confirmed are Heaven 17 & Aswad for Saturday 10th and East 17 & 911 for Sunday 11th August. A **strictly limited** number of Early Bird tickets are currently on sale, but hurry! 17th & 18th August 2019 Set against a beautiful backdrop of rolling green hills and farmland, the Garlic Festival is located just outside of Newchurch at the heart of the stunning Isle of Wight.
