Yinspire Yoga Classes – Every Tuesday and Thursday 10am – 11.30am. The venue is a private studio, recently refurbished with use for yoga in mind, and accommodates around 15 mat spaces. Aviva Sports Club for children with disabilities Thursday 4pm to 6pm Thanks to funding from the Aviva Community Fund we are able to offer a weekly 2 hour session specifically for children with disabilities. Come and try out a variety of sports with our coach Paul Marshal, including access to our indoor climbing wall. You don’t have to stay for the whole 2 hours and can join in at the time best suiting you. I find it excellent for helping me with my chronic back problem. Anyone can come along; it does look deceptively easy, but is really effective. DanceMakers: DanceSense runs every Monday from 11am–12.30pm in the small hall of Newport Methodist Church DanceSense is a gentle dance programme designed specifically for people living with neurological conditions which have affected their movement. It gives participants the opportunity to develop confidence and strength and express themselves creatively in a supportive environment. It is also a chance to socialise with others living with similar conditions. Carers and friends are welcome to come along. This beautiful area has the largest bay on the island which, at low tide, offers a unique run along the hard sand. Dash and Splash is a fun run and not a race!
Our Splash and Dash is a fun competition for girls and boys and a great introduction to the sport of Triathlon (without the cycling!) The swim is in the pool and the run will be around Jubilee Field. Everyone gets a medal and certificate and the winners in each age group win a trophy! Calm, Be Happy provides a gradual introduction to mindfulness and meditation and key teachings on positive happy living over five weekly classes. Each class includes guided mindfulness exercises and meditations, group discussions and practical exercises led by experienced facilitators in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Last year’s inaugural Osborne Run was so successful we’re doing it again! Thanks to the generosity of English Heritage, take this unique opportunity to run through the grounds of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s beautiful estate of Osborne. Held on Sunday 9th September 2018, participants can choose from a 3 or 5km run that starts and finishes in front of the home so loved by the royal couple. The non-competitive fun run is open to all ages and abilities, and will take in areas of the grounds including the beach, Swiss Cottage and quieter areas of the estate not usually frequented by visitors. The cost of entry includes a running vest or t shirt and all finishers will receive a special Osborne Run medal. Places for this event are limited so anyone interested in registering for the fun run is encouraged to sign up quickly! Registration opens in June; check back here for more details.
