Event Details
Immerse yourself in Britain’s heyday for a memorable and nostalgic day out for all the family. An extraordinary time with even more extraordinary people. Be inspired by the music, dress and food of the era that changed the world.
HISTORIC VEHICLES AND DISPLAYS
Spend your day wandering 1940s street scenes, sing along and dance to the music of the era. Dressing up in clothes of the time is positively encouraged (don’t worry if you don’t want to, all are welcome) but if you arrive and fancy popping on something vintage, there are plenty of pop-up shops selling 1940s clothes. You can even get your hair done in pin-curls at the onsite hairdresser.
Fill up on tasty food and refreshments available around the site before admiring the array of military vehicles including an authentic Spitfire. If you’re lucky enough you may even see one fly past during your visit.
Watch out for Sargeant Marmite (you either love him or you hate him!) putting new recruits through their paces.
MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT
Look out for talented duo Old Time Rags. One-man-band Laurence Marshall and award winning step dancer Phoebe Douthwaite join forces with their take on the traditions of Vaudeville, music hall and classic street entertainment.
We also welcome the dancers from Now That’s Jive who’ll get everyone ‘In the Mood’ with their music and dance. Singers Steve Howell and Amanda Jane will also entertain us with songs from the era.
STEAM TRAINS
Don’t miss your ride behind our magnificent steam locomotives. Settle back in our Edwardian and Victorian carriages for an hour’s ride through the Isle of Wight countryside. We operate an extensive service throughout the day. Your ticket includes unlimited journeys – please note that all seating is unreserved throughout this weekend.

The Three Inch Fools are dusting down their musical instruments and hitting the road with Shakespeare’s riotous comedy, Twelfth Night.
Prepare for an evening of mischief and hilarity, as five actors present an inventive take on this rip-roaring comedy, fit for all the family. Touring the UK this summer, this Shakespearean classic will be getting the full Three Inch Fools treatment: expect fast-paced drama, endless costume changes, and much music-making
along the way!
★★★★★ – “So entertaining…laugh-out-loud funny”
★★★★★ – “One of the best Shakespeare plays I’ll ever watch” – The Bristol Post
★★★★★ – “The ultimate British theatrical experience” – Hastings Independent Press
Bring your own blankets, cushions, and camping-chairs and join us at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Come prepared for the weather – the performance will continue come rain come shine! The performance commences at 7pm. Why not arrive early for a train ride at 17:30, then enjoy a picnic before the show starts. Our bar and refreshments will be open throughout the evening.
THE THREE INCH FOOLS
The Three Inch Fools are an innovative touring theatre company acclaimed for their fast-paced and musically driven approach to theatre. They have built a reputation for staging bold and vibrant productions – a fast-paced, musically-driven style, using all sorts of instruments, plenty of multi-roling and many a quick costume change along the way.
This summer The Fools will perform come rain come shine in the great British outdoors at over 80 different venues across the UK – castles, gardens, stately homes, historic barns, National Trust properties, village greens, churches, cathedrals, museums, arts centres, and even a royal residence or two (indeed any place where five actors and an audience can fit!). The Three Inch Fools are in their eighth year of touring, having so far performed at over 160 venues and to almost 80,000 audience members.

This weekend features our historic Island locomotives in action. Look out for one, or both of our ‘Terrier’ locomotives which were a common sight on the Ventnor West branch until the 1940s. These handing over the reins to the Class O2 locomotives, such as our own W24 Calbourne which will also be steaming throughout the weekend.
During the weekend there will be opportunities to ride aboard our push-pull carriages, veterans from the Ventnor West line, hauled by one of our ‘Terriers’.
With a busy timetable and three locomotives in steam, there’ll be plenty of action around the Railway.
This event commemorates the 70th anniversary of the closure of the branch line to Ventnor West. This was the last railway built on the Island, completed in 1900, and featured relatively elaborate stations, a lengthy curved tunnel, and a spectacular scenic section through the Undercliff with stunning sea views. Built with the ambition of transporting visitors to the fashionable resort of Ventnor, passenger numbers never lived up expectation. The newly nationalised British Railways didn’t waste any time in closing this loss-making line on 15 September 1952 – the first line on the Island to close.

THE MUSIC! THE FASHION! THE TRAINS!
We’ve transported the railway back to 1967 to celebrate all things Sixties. The Beatles and Rolling Stones are in the charts, Carnaby Street is ‘swinging’, the pound has been devalued, and Sandie Shaw has just won the Eurovision Song Contest.
TRAINS
For this weekend we’ve imagined that the age of steam survived on the Isle of Wight into 1967. Six Ivatt 2MT locomotives have been shipped to the Island to replace the elderly O2s. For this weekend only we’ll be renaming our two Ivatt locomotives continuing the Island tradition of naming locomotives after local towns and villages.
Look our for our Class 05 diesel Nuclear Fred pottering around the station with a period works train. In the station yard a group of enthusiasts from the newly formed Wight Locomotive Society will be displaying their new purchase W24 Calbourne.
MUSIC
Spend your day enjoying the music of the Sixties with live entertainment around the station. Dressing up in clothes of the era is positively encouraged (Don’t worry if you don’t want to, all are welcome). Our bar and cafe will be open – sit back and soak up the atmosphere.
Standard tickets include one complete train journey to both ends of the line, plus all the music and activities around Havenstreet station. Book online to reserve a compartment for you and your family. First-class tickets also available
Admission-only tickets (buy at the gate) for this weekend are Adults: £10, Children £5.
