(Updated 15/04/2021) Introduction Short Breaks is a statutory service funded through Children’s Services. It aims to increase activity opportunities for children and young people with disabilities. It provides a break for parents/carers while their child takes part in a safe, fun and enjoyable activity. The Short Breaks winter activity guide is available now. It gives information on activities available through the Short Breaks programme. Short Breaks offers after-school clubs, evening and weekend activities and overnight stays. This is available up to the child or young persons 19th birthday. Short Breaks also provides a range of facilities for families to use. For example, the Short Breaks caravan at Lower Hyde. It includes hoists and a Landeez wheelchair. Fun and educational activities for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, allowing their parents or carers to take a “short break” from caring. In order for a child or a young person to participate in the Short Breaks programme a Gateway Card PLUS registration form is required to be completed.
